Former US President Barack Obama spent time during his Germany tour with international students in Berlin on 6 April.  Ten Hertie School students and several alumni attended a Town Hall event at the European School of Management and Technology, where Obama spoke to an audience of 320 young European leaders from 37 countries.

“My belief is investing in you is our best investment,” Obama said in response to a question about mentoring and funding from Hertie School MPP graduate Daniel Gyamerah, Chairman of the community empowerment project Each One Teach One in Berlin “What I can do more than anything I believe is to spotlight, highlight, bring attention to the work that you do, and maybe occasionally give a little inspiration, but your work will speak for itself and will potentially not only inspire donors, but also inspire the world.”

The former president toured Germany this week to promote the Obama Foundation’s work in supporting young people to become actively engaged in tackling problems facing the world today.
