Official launch of the Sustainable Development Goals Professional Certificate

Meet the Hertie School SDG Certificate programme participants

The Hertie School is proud to be a part of the inaugural Sustainable Development Goals Professional Certificate programme, founded by the Global Public Policy Network (GPPN) to train young leaders to obtain the knowledge, skills and experience to advance the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Five students from the Hertie School will take part in the programme, along with students from Columbia SIPA*, LKY School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore and Sciences Po School of Public Affairs. Hertie School students Yilmaz Akkoyun, Felix Amelung, Angela Galeano-Colonia, Gaurav Ganti and Shraddha Iyer will be advised by Christian Flachsland, Assistant Professor of Climate and Energy Governance.

The programme -- which includes SDG courses, international seminars, immersion work with a partner institution, and a final project -- kicks off on 11 December at Sciences Po in Paris. The launch event is part of a larger event, “One Planet Summit,” which includes Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, and António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, and other high-level speakers.  President Helmut K. Anheier will represent the Hertie School in a featured round table discussion with the Deans and Presidents of the participating GPPN partner schools.

What is the SDG Professional Certificate?

The Global Public Policy Network (GPPN) is proud to announce the new SDG Professional Certificate, a one-year programme providing innovative training and international collaboration on how to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals. For the launch of this new programme, four GPPN member schools (Columbia SIPA*, Sciences Po School of Public Affairs, Hertie School and LKY School of Public Policy National University of Singapore) will be sending a select group of students to participate in the first cohort.

As part of the United Nation’s 2030 Agenda, having specialised knowledge and hands-on experience on how to meet the SDGs is in high demand from government agencies, international organisations and private companies. The UN 2030 Agenda and SDG partnerships truly represent a global effort from the public and private sectors, at the international and local level, to respond to the most challenging questions of our time.

The SDG Professional Certificate will allow you to develop entrepreneurial skills, work with public policy students from our GPPN partner universities, and showcase your projects to an international audience of academics, practitioners and policymakers.
