Workshop "Lost in Care: Disappearance of Unaccompanied Migrant Minors from Care Facilities in Europe" hosted by the Centre on 24 November 2024

Convened by Dr. Grażyna Baranowska, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre, the workshop brought together a diverse group of leading scholars and practitioners representing United Nations treaty bodies and working groups, as well as international organisations such as the International Commission on Missing Persons, several National Red Cross Societies and Missing Children Europe.

Throughout three panels, participants engaged in discussions on various aspects of migrant minors' disappearances. The conversation encompassed categorising, reporting and follow-up methods employed across different jurisdictions and by various actors, organisational approaches to the issue, existing challenges, and potential recommendations for policymakers. The discussions also centred on the best interest of the child, as well as the relevance of trafficking and enforced disappearances frameworks.

The workshop was funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions.
