Annual human rights networking event takes place at the Hertie School

Organised by the Student Advisory Board of the Centre for Fundamental Rights, this event featured practitioners from renowned domestic and international human rights organisations.

On Thursday 11 April 2024, The Centre for Fundamental Rights, along with its Student Advisory Board and the Hertie School Career Development team, hosted this year’s human rights networking event in the Hertie School Forum. This annual evening of presentations and candid discussions is designed to give Hertie School students the opportunity to engage with human rights organisations face-to-face, ask questions and find out about job opportunities with leading international institutions from Berlin and beyond.

It is a format which has been beneficial to our students in previous years, in some cases even becoming a springboard for their careers. Emblematic of this were the Hertie School alumni who took to the stage on the evening as human rights practitioners themselves: former students Sasha Ockenden and Ofelia Ortega, who now work for SOS Humanity and Transparency International respectively, returned to deliver presentations to current students, explaining to them the practical realities of their work within the field human rights. Among the many other well-known organisations in attendance were also Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Brot für die Welt, Deutsche Umwelthilfe, Integrity Watch Afghanistan and Access Now, which was represented by Hertie students Desirée Morales and Luis Barrueto.

Following the presentations, students were invited to discover more about each institution by visiting the various discussion booths which were spread throughout the Forum.

This event was organised by the Student Advisory Board of the Centre for Fundamental Rights in collaboration with the Centre for Fundamental Rights and Career Development.
