The opening of the Academic Year 2012/2013 at the Hertie School took place on Friday, 7 September 2012 with a keynote by Michèle Lamont, Professor of Sociology and African-American Studies and Robert I. Goldman Professor of European Studies at Harvard University. The opening included the award ceremony for the 2012 graduates of the Executive Master of Public Administration (EMPA), a joint programme with the University of Potsdam, and a welcome to the new Master of Public Policy (MPP) and EMPA students.
