Digitalisation of government

We inquire how digitalisation can foster innovations in policymaking and public service delivery and drive government transformation. What is the best way to develop public management reform and state capacities (e.g. delivery, coordination, regulatory and analytical capacities) to overcome the challenges of digitalisation?

There is increased pressure on governments around the world to adopt and implement digital technologies for both their internal and external operations and interactions. This process of digital transformation has implications, both positive and negative, for innovation, policy making, public service delivery, public management, and government more broadly. At the Hertie School’s Centre for Digital Governance, we aim to generate actionable understanding about the nature and directions of digital government, the necessary public management reforms related to ensuring successful digitalisation (e.g. service delivery, coordination, capacity building and regulation), and how to create public value through new technologies.
