Yannis Theocharis is Professor and Chair of Digital Governance at the Department of Governance, Technical University of Munich, where he is also an appointed core member of the Munich Data Science Institute. He holds an MSc degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a PhD from University College London. His research focuses on political behaviour, political communication, and computational social science, with his more recent projects dealing with online toxicity and content moderation. He has published extensively on these topics in political science, communication and interdisciplinary journals and his work has appeared in several edited volumes on social media, politics and research methods. Yannis was previously Alexander von Humboldt Fellow and Research Fellow at the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (MZES), Assistant Professor at the University of Groningen, and Professor of Communication and Media with focus on Innovative Methods at the University of Bremen. He is a TEDx speaker and enjoys contributing articles to newspapers and democratic fora such as opendemocracy.org.
