At this Sustainability Colloquium, Kuki Soejachmoen (Executive Director, Indonesia Research Institute for Decarbonization, IRID), experienced UNFCCC negotiator and one of Indonesia’s leading climate policy experts, shares her assessment of the country’s energy transition and its role in international climate politics. Following the presentation, attendees will have the chance to discuss and ask questions. This session will be moderated by Marian Feist.
About our Speaker
Kuki Soejachmoen, with over 20 years of experience in international climate diplomacy and research on energy and climate policy analysis, has led the Indonesia Research Institute for Decarbonization (IRID) as Executive Director since its establishment in 2020. IRID's primary objective is to promote decarbonization efforts where energy transition becomes one of the ways to achieve this.
Since 2007, Kuki has represented Indonesia in climate negotiations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Furthermore, after the twenty-first session of the Conference of the Parties (COP21), Kuki played an active role as a negotiator for Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, which governs international cooperation to help each Parties achieve their commitments. Currently, Kuki also serves as Lead Co-Chair for Taskforce 3: Governing Climate Target, Energy Transition and Environmental Pollution of Think20 (T20), the official G20 engagement group consisting of think tanks and research institutions around the world.
Kuki worked for two terms (2010-2014 and 2015-2019) at the Office of the Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Indonesia on Climate Change, following her position as Executive Director of Pelangi Indonesia. Over the course of almost 30 years, Kuki has been engaged in a variety of research and policy analysis related to climate change, energy, transportation, and air quality.
