Head of strategy for French Government Jean Pisani-Ferry becomes professor at the Hertie School

The Hertie School also welcomes the demography expert Michaela Kreyenfeld as Professor of Sociology. 

Berlin, 11. March 2014 –  The Commissioner-General of the French Prime Minister’s Policy Planning Staff, Jean Pisani-Ferry, has joined the Hertie School’s core faculty as Professor of Economics and Public Management.

Pisani-Ferry was the founding Director of the renowned Brussels-based think tank BRUEGEL. His career includes positions at the French Institute for International Economics, at the Group of Economic Policy Analysis, and the European Commission. He has taught at the University Paris-Dauphine, Ecole Polytechnique, and Université libre de Bruxelles. Pisani-Ferry has authored several economic policy publications and is a sought after commentator in the international press. As Head of Strategy at the French Government, Pisani-Ferry is currently preparing a report on France’s policy agenda for the next ten years.

Michaela Kreyenfeld Professor of Sociology

The Hertie School also welcomes the demography expert Michaela Kreyenfeld as Professor of Sociology. Kreyenfeld previously worked at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock, where she remains Head of the “Research Group on Life Course, Social Policy, and the Family”. Before that, she worked at the University of Rostock and was a guest researcher at the University of Stockholm, Syracuse University, the European Centre for Analysis in the Social Sciences, and York University. Her most recent study, an international comparison of the relation between family policy and birth rates, gained a lot of recognition.
