Study: German youth more political and optimistic than predecessors

Klaus Hurrelmann, who has co-authored the Shell Youth Study since 2002, evaluated these findings as first indications of a change of mind among the youth. Comparing the results to previous findings he concluded: “The up-and-coming generation is still very pragmatic, but they have also became more self-confident. They enjoy living in Germany and have an optimistic perspective on the future. They are more politically-minded than their predecessors and want to shape the society they live in.  At the same timethey tend to distance themselves from the political system. It will be interesting to see how this seeming contradiction pans out.”
