State, Risk and Society (STARS) Researchers present their work in progress

In workshop, researchers look at lessons from the 2007/2008 financial crisis

Researchers in the Hertie School’s State, Risk and Society (STARS) project presented their most recent findings on lessons from the 2007/2008 financial crisis in a workshop on Friday, 16 December.

Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, STARS is headed up by Hertie School Professors Kai WegrichMark Hallerberg, Mark Kayser and Research Fellow Tobias Bach

Participants from inside and outside the Hertie School presented findings on topics such as measuring electoral competitiveness, the role of publicly owned banks in financial crises, financial market supervision in Germany,  and pension fund regulation. Hertie School PhD students presented alongside core faculty members.

Taking a long-term view of the 2007/2008 financial crisis, the project examines economic vulnerabilities in modern societies, which industrialised countries had come to think of as a thing of the past. It examines lessons to be learned from the “Great Recession”, focusing on relationships between the state, society and the financial sector.
