Project course tackles real-world challenges: climate policy, global public affairs and comms handbook.
In a project course on political communications, 15 Master of Public Policy students at the Hertie School used their expertise to help solve some real-world public affairs challenges for German specialty chemicals company Evonik.
Professor Andrea Römmele was in charge of the seminar. Project courses offer students the opportunity to put to use the policy tools they have gained at the Hertie School, creating actual solutions for a business or institution. Evonik has offered professional opportunities for the school in the past – almunus Steven Schmerz, who works in Evonik’s Brussels office, also had a hand in the project.
The students tackled three issues for the company. One group looked at climate and environmental policy, another at public affairs in Europe, the United States and China, and another created a handbook of political communications with practical tips and cases. They presented their work to the Head of Evonik’s Berlin Office, Norbert Neß, on 11 May.
