50 years of the IEA: What does the energy balance look like?

In an interview with Deutschlandfunk, Lion Hirth speaks on the impact of the International Energy Agency and its role today.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Founded in the aftermath of the 1973 Oil Crisis, the IEA was established as a counter-programme to OPEC, the cartel of oil-producing states. Today, the IEA serves a broader role, carrying out energy system analyses and publicizing information and data related to the energy sector.

As Hirth explains, the IEA serves a crucial role in the energy transition. As a reliable information source on the world’s energy landscape, they provide a big picture into the outlook for the future.
