Hertie School and Teach for India offer partial scholarships for MPP, MIA, MDS and Executive MPA students

The Hertie School is partnering with Teach for India, one of India’s most renowned non-profit organisations, to provide financial aid to its alumni and employees selected for admission to the Hertie School’s master’s programmes. Starting this fall, candidates can apply to receive a 25% tuition waiver upon admission to the Master of Public Policy, Master of Data Science for Public Policy, Master of International Affairs or the Executive Master of Public Administration.

This newly established collaboration is testament to the goal shared by both the Hertie School and Teach for India to empower future leaders with interdisciplinary and hands-on training in the field of policymaking. “The Hertie School and Teach for India have a common objective – to enable future policymakers and leaders to make a positive impact in India’s public policy sector,” says Axel Baisch, Managing Director of the Hertie School. “We are confident that many Teach for India community members have the drive, interest and personal suitability to succeed in our master’s programmes and make a difference after graduation.”

Founded in 2009, Teach for India is a leading non-profit organisation that strives to eliminate educational inequity in India and is a part of the global Teach for All network. The Teach for India Fellowship is an opportunity for India’s brightest and most promising youth to serve as full-time teachers in low-income communities and under-resourced schools. Upon completion of the fellowship, Teach for India alumni join a network of more than 3900 members. More than 80% continue to work in the education sector or the larger development sector. 

Teach for India’s Director of Alumni Impact Payoshni Saraf welcomes the partnership as an extension of the organisation’s mission to achieve education equality in India at the local level. "To truly move towards education equity in India, changes in our existing systems need to be brought in at all levels, from on-ground initiatives to policy and governance,” says Ms Saraf. “Over the last decade, our alumni have created a momentous impact at the grassroots and our partnership with Hertie fills us with the hope of preparing a cohort of alumni who will create deep impact through sustainable large-scale policy level changes. With this partnership, our alumni will have the opportunity to learn on a global platform and bring back the learning and exposure to solve complex problems in the education system."
