Top positions for the Hertie School in CHE ranking

The public policy university receives high marks in research and teaching in Germany’s biggest independent university ranking.

In Germany's largest independent university comparison, the CHE University Ranking, the Hertie School has received top marks. In a comparison of German universities’ departments of political science, the Berlin-based public policy school achieves top rankings in the categories of standard period of study and third-party funding per researcher. Almost every Hertie School student completes their master's degree within the standard period of study (98 per cent), according to the comparison. In addition, researchers raise over €109,000 per capita on average in research funding.

This is the first time that the Hertie School has taken part in the comparison. The widely-known ranking compares more than 10,000 degree programmes from over 300 universities across the country in the areas of study, teaching and research, and includes the opinions of 120,000 students on their universities.

Cornelia Woll: High-quality framework conditions in research and teaching

“Since our institution’s foundation 20 years ago, our goal has been excellence at an international level. Our aim is to provide high-quality framework conditions in teaching and research, as well as close dialogue between students and professors. The Hertie School's top positions in the independent CHE ranking in the categories of standard period of study and third-party funding show that our school has a recipe for success,” says Hertie School President Cornelia Woll.

The comparison is based on the Hertie School’s four master’s programmes in public policy, international affairs, data science for public policy and the part-time Executive Master of Public Administration, as well as the school’s general framework conditions for research and teaching.
