Article co-authored by Christian Flachsland describes encyclical as a leap forward in dialogue between science and religion.
In June 2015, the Pope delivered a high-profile encyclical on climate change and the environment. The near-200 page document called for the Catholic church to enter a 'dialogue with all people about our common home'. In an article for the journal Nature Climate Change Hertie School Professor Christian Flachsland, together with Ottmar Edenhofer and Brigitte Knopf, commented:
"The Pope’s encyclical makes unprecedented progress in developing dialogue between science and religion by drawing on established scientific, economic and social science research, and encouraging further discussion about the ethical challenge of governing the global commons."
