Juan Pablo Cadena is a political analyst and former diplomat with a B.A. in International Business and Trade from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador (2004), an M.A. in International Negotiations and Conflict Management from the Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar (2008), and an M.A. in International Relations/Political Science from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva (2019). He worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ecuador between 2009 and 2018 in several positions that included Head of the Department of Political Analysis (2012-2013), First Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Ecuador to the United Nations Office in Geneva (2013-2017), and Chief of Staff to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (2017-2018). He moved to Germany in 2019 and after working as an independent consultant on multilateralism and global governance, he joined in November 2021 the Hertie School´s Executive Education department as Lead Proposal Writer. He is fluent in Spanish, French, English and German.
