Central and Eastern Europe Scholarship

With 21st century governance increasingly reliant upon global connection, Central and Eastern Europe is stepping to the fore as a key regional player. Its political, economic, and social development over the last two decades has given it an important place on the international stage, and a necessary hand in determining the trajectory of Europe’s development.

Applicants who are passionate about addressing global issues in local contexts, and who are citizens of the following countries, are welcome to apply: Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Ukraine.

  • Available for the Master of Public Policy (MPP) and the Master of International Affairs (MIA)
  • Open to applicants from the following nationalities: Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Ukraine.
  • 2 full scholarships worth 36,500 euros

How to apply

  • First, submit a standard application to either the MPP or the MIA programme.
  • Additionally, write a one-page personal statement elaborating on what you believe Central and Eastern Europe's role in global politics to be. Please also discuss your vision for contributing to this role, and how a master’s degree from the Hertie School would support that vision.
  • Send the personal statement to grad-admissions[at]hertie-school[dot]org after a standard application has been submitted. 

Interested applicants should submit their application and essay before 1 March. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview with a faculty member.
