Hertie School team advances to regional final in 2014 Hult Prize

Five MPP students will present CareCards project in the regional final of the 2014 Hult Prize in London.

Five Master of Public Policy (MPP) students have advanced to the regional final of the 2014 Hult Prize, taking place in London on 7-8 March. They will present their project CareCards, a social business to address the challenge of early identification of symptoms that lead to long-term, chronic diseases.

For the 2014 Hult Prize Healthcare Challenge, student were asked to develop ideas to help the over a billion people living in slums worldwide, and over 250 million people who are affected by chronic and non-communicable diseases. These are diseases that can be treated and even cured, but without reasonable access to effective and affordable healthcare, suffering continues.

Over 10,000 university start-up teams submitted their ideas, but only 300 finalists will have the opportunity to present their social business at one of six global locations. The Hertie School team is one of these finalists. They will be presenting CareCards in London this weekend to an executive jury made up of regional CEOs, non-profit leaders and social entrepreneurs.  A regional champion will be selected live at the conclusion of the event and will receive a one year membership into the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) and an opportunity to spend the summer at the Hult Prize Accelerator - an innovative incubator for social enterprise.

The regional champions will attend CGI's annual meeting in September 2014 where they will pitch their start-ups in-front of a world-class audience, including Mohammad Yunus, who along with other notable global leaders will select and award the winning team the Hult Prize, along with one million U.S. Dollar in start-up capital.
