69 members of the Master of Public Policy’s (MPP) Class of 2011 received their degrees during the graduation ceremony today at the Hertie School in Berlin.

Berlin, 27 May 2011 – 69 members of the Master of Public Policy’s (MPP) Class of 2011 received their degrees during the graduation ceremony today at the Hertie School in Berlin. Half of the MPP’s fifth graduating class hail from Germany and the other students represent 34 countries.
During their two years at the Hertie School the intensive MPP programme has prepared them to assume leadership positions at the interface of the public, private and civil society sectors.
During the graduation ceremony, which was attended by 300 guests, the graduates were presented with their degrees by Professor Helmut K. Anheier, PhD, Hertie School Dean, and Professor Dr. Henrik Enderlein, Associate Dean and MPP Director. “We are extremely proud of the Class of 2011. Throughout their studies they have shown exceptional dedication, hard work and engagement. It is our privilege to send them into careers in government, business and civil society.”
This year’s commencement speaker, His Excellency Philip D. Murphy, U.S. Ambassador to Germany, congratulated the graduates, their families and loved ones. Addressing the graduates he said, “If you want the world to reflect your vision and your ideals, roll up your sleeves and become an innovator. Having the skill to do things right is not enough. Doing it and doing the right thing must be your aim. And that is also my final piece of advice. Look for opportunities to do the right thing, to give something back.”
Zoë Robaey, a representative of the class of 2011 also addressed the guests. The “Alumni Student Thesis Award”, a project of the Hertie School Alumni that honours one exceptional Master’s Thesis, was presented for the first time this year to Patrick Gilroy.
