Who will lead Germany’s Green Party?

In ZDF Tagesschau, Andrea Römmele argues that Germany’s Federal Green Party is ready to take on governmental responsibility again.

Annalena Baerbock and Robert Habeck have co-led Germany’s Green Party at the Federal level since 2018. Under their leadership, the party has surged in the polls. The nomination of the Greens’ chancellor candidate, however, remains uncertain.

Regardless of the final decision, party observers agree that the entire party will support the final result. “The Greens have been in waiting mode since 2005,” said Andrea Römmele, Hertie School Professor of Communication in Politics and Civil Society, in an interview with ZDF Tagesschau. “That’s almost a whole generation. The party wants to finally have governmental responsibility again.”
