Tagesspiegel names Andrea Römmele among Berlin’s top 100 thinkers

The Professor of Communication in Politics and Civil Society acknowledged for her public engagement on democracy.

Dean of Executive Education Andrea Römmele has been named one of Berlin’s 100 most important thinkers in 2023 by the newspaper Tagesspiegel. The listing recognises her research, teaching and public engagement of a strong democracy. “Democracy, digitalisation and elections – these are the three words that best describe Professor of Communications in Politics and Civil Society Andrea Römmele and her research interest,” the newspaper writes. “In keeping with the subject, she has a public presence and explains the political system and its players – this year in the vivid report series ‘Understanding Democracy’ on TV channel ARD-alpha.”

Andrea Römmele joined the Hertie School in 2010 as Professor for Communication in Politics and Civil Society. In addition to this role, she also currently holds the position of Vice President and Dean of Executive Education. Römmele is a frequent commentator in German and international media and politics. Her research focusses on comparative political communication, political parties and social media and its role in campaigning. She obtained her PhD from Heidelberg University and completed her habilitation at the Freie Universität Berlin.
 
Annually, Tagesspiegel recognises 100 top personalities in research and academia for their excellent research, teaching and influence on public debates. According to the newspaper, these thinkers pave the way for the innovations of tomorrow.
