The Director of the Centre for International Security and Professor of International Relations is the newest member of the foundation’s Senate.
The Deutsche Nationalstiftung has chosen Professor Marina Henke as the newest addition to its 30-person senate, a group composed of the leading political and intellectual voices in Germany, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The foundation has three aims: (1) promoting German political culture within the European Union, (2) substantiating a common German identity, and (3) exploring and discussing the issues facing Germany in the present and future. Its patron ('Schirmherr') is German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
"The Deutsche Nationalstiftung and especially its senate was the brainchild of former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt," Prof. Henke explained, "He wanted to create a strategic council to think through the big questions Germany faces. I deeply admire Helmut Schmidt for the strategic foresight he has shown throughout his life and it’s a great honor for me to join this organisation."
