Marina Henke comments on the war in Ukraine in German media

The Director of the Centre for International Security analyses the attack on Ukraine and the motives of the Russian President.

Marina Henke, Professor of International Relations and Director of the Hertie School's Centre for International Security analysed Russia’s attack on Ukraine on Germany’s ZDF television.

Putin “needs an enemy,” Henke said. “Domestic politics are the main reason for this. Putin feels weak on the domestic front. He is facing an opposition that is getting stronger and stronger, and in order to justify his repressions against this opposition, he needs an enemy. He has chosen NATO and the West as this enemy.”
