New professorship at the Hertie School’s Centre for International Security Policy in Berlin

NXP to sponsor a Professor of International and Cyber Security.

Berlin, 21 December 2017 -- The Hertie School in Berlin will hire a Professor of International and Cyber Security, funded by NXP Semiconductors. The new professor will join the Hertie School’s Centre for International Security Policy (CISP), which is directed by Wolfgang Ischinger, Professor for Security Policy and Diplomatic Practice. NXP Semiconductors, a global leader in secure connectivity solutions based in Hamburg, Germany, will support the new position at the Hertie School for at least the next five years.

The professorship will focus broadly on security issues related to technology; political strategies; regulations and compliance; and on standards and practices for protecting critical infrastructure, networks, devices and data from cyberattacks, damage or unauthorised access. The new professor, from any of the major social sciences, will analyse international and cyber security from a governance perspective. A strong focus on international relations, conflict or security studies is preferred.

“This professorship ensures that Hertie School students will get a future-oriented approach to international relations,” says CISP Director and Hertie School Professor Wolfgang Ischinger. “Cyber security is truly a global issue, and it’s important that the next generation of leaders be equipped to meet the challenges of the digital age. The partnership with NXP adds great value in this regard.”

“As we increasingly connect devices to the Internet of Things, cybersecurity and the protection of our technological and societal assets becomes a global challenge,” says Ruediger Stroh, NXP Executive Vice President. “Complementary to our efforts as an industry, strengthening scientific research on governance issues in this field is essential in developing new means and technologies that will protect our future information systems and networks.”

The deadline for applicants is 31 January 2018.
