Professor of Public Health and Education examines how the pandemic and the climate crisis have politicised a generation.
In June, Routledge published Gen Z: Between Climate Crisis and Coronavirus Pandemic, an English translation of Generation Greta, the 2020 German-language book written by Professor of Public Health and Education Klaus Hurrelmann and journalist Erik Albrecht. The newly translated edition examines the politics of a generation defined by the climate crisis, with dditional analysis that incorporates the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In an interview earlier this year, Hurrelmann told Germany's Focus magazine that he expects youth climate activism to continue despite pandemic-related interruptions.
"The issue remains – the climate crisis will not go away because of the pandemic," Hurrelmann said at the time.
Last September, the Hertie School hosted a book launch to mark the release of Generation Greta. Hurrelmann was joined by "Fridays for Future" activist Franziska Wessel, Federal Chairman of the Alliance 90/The Greens parliamentary group Robert Habeck, and Nordwalde local council member Sven Hülskötter.
