Javier Solana Senior Fellow at the Hertie School / Main speaker at European Elections Night

Javier Solana will mainly support the Hertie School in further developing its research and teaching on foreign and security policy.

Berlin, 23. May 2014 –  Javier Solana is the new Senior Fellow at the Hertie School in Berlin. The former EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy and Secretary-General of the Council of the European Union, will be the main speaker at the European Elections Night on 25 May at the Hertie School. In discussion with Petra Pinzler from Die ZEIT, he will analyse the key EU election trends as well as reports from Ukrainian Presidential Elections.

Javier Solana will mainly support the Hertie School in further developing its research and teaching on foreign and security policy. His expertise will enrich the new Master of International Affairs (MIA) degree programme, set to start in 2015. “The field of international relations is due for a thrust of innovation as old recipes no longer meet the demands of a multipolar world. Europe, for example, sets very high standards for itself and is confronted with similar expectations from other nations, regions and global players. The development of a degree programme that prepares young leaders in this field, is a very exciting prospect. I look forward to supporting the Hertie School in this,” said Solana.

Javier Solana is president of ESADE Center for Global Economy and Geopolitics in Barcelona. He is also distinguished fellow in Foreign Policy at Brookings Institution, Fisher Family Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School, chairman of the Aspen Institute España, honorary president of the Centre for Human Dialogue, member of the board of the International Crisis Group, the European Council on Foreign Relations, and Human Rights Watch, as well as senior visiting professor at the London School of Economics, where he was awarded an Honorary Degree in December 2010.

On 25 May 2014 the Hertie School, in cooperation with the European Commission Representation in Germany and European Movement Germany, will open its doors for the European Elections Night. Members of the press are warmly invited to attend the event, which will be hosted on the Hertie School campus (Friedrichstraße 180, 10117 Berlin).
