Video: Oliver Ruhnnau joins Florence School of Regulation Insights panel on emergency gas measures

Panelists discussed emergency gas measures introduced by the European Commission in response to the energy crisis.

On Wednesday, 29 March 2023, Dr. Oliver Ruhnau, Postdoctoral Researcher at the Centre for Sustainability, joined the Florence School of Regulation’s FSR Insights series for a panel discussion on “Experience with emergency gas measures: price cap, storage and saving regulations.” The panelists discussed the emergency toolboxes introduced by the European Commission in response to the energy crisis, including gas price caps, savings measures and storage.

Ruhnau presented research on gas demand in times of crisis, which showed how consumers in Germany responded to the crisis by substantially reducing gas usage. Along with panelists from FSR, the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, and DIW Berlin, Ruhnau applied insights from the latest research and analysed the emergency toolboxes proposed by the Commission, including their strong points, weaknesses, and what additional measures might be necessary.
