Book joins economic policy experience and theory

Jean Pisani-Ferry provides key insights into devising economic policy, based on real-world policy problems in the second edition of Economic Policy: Theory and Practice, published by Oxford University Press. The book is co-authored with Agnès Bénassy-Quéré of the Paris School of Economics, Benoît Coeuré of the European Central Bank and Sciences Po and Pierre Jacquet of the Ecole nationale des Ponts et Chaussées.

As leading economists from academia and policymaking, the authors draw on their own experiences in European and international institutions. The new edition draws on recent developments such as the financial crisis since 2008, strains in the European Union and the euro area, the successes and setbacks in emerging markets, changes to labour markets with a focus on inequality and more.

The book provides a systematic and comprehensive approach to economic policy, covering key current issues such as fiscal deficits, unconventional monetary policies, global imbalances, growth strategies, tax reform design and inequality. In addition to its many examples of actual problems, it also provides analytical tools to evaluate policy choices. The first edition was published in 2004.
