Andrea Römmele calls German Green Party’s new spending plan “honest and smart”

In an interview with Bloomberg, Römmele offers her take on the party’s new proposal for a clean economy.

The German Green Party’s proposal for major investments in climate and clean economy initiatives could provide a path for its future, said Andrea Römmele, Hertie School Professor of Communication in Politics and Civil Society, in an interview with Bloomberg on 4 December. The 500-billion-euro investment plan, which the Greens have proposed in the runup to Germany's 2021 elections, would be financed by borrowing and by taxing big tech companies.

“It’s honest and perhaps smart to do in the wake of the corona crisis because it doesn’t look so big,” she said, adding that putting a realistic price tag on the climate transition may strengthen the image of the Green Party as a serious political player.
