2022 DAAD Prize awarded to Sanyam Bajaj (MPP 2024)

Master of Public Policy student is acknowledged for academic achievement and engagement in the Hertie community.

For the eighth year in a row, the Hertie School presented the DAAD Prize to a master’s student who has shown outstanding academic achievement and engagement. President Cornelia Woll announced the winner at the award ceremony on 5 September, held in person for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, as part of the official Opening of the Academic Year in Berlin.

Sanyam Bajaj, the winner of the 2022 DAAD Prize, was honoured for his academic performance in the Master of Public Policy, his dedication to his work as a student assistant for various departments in the Hertie School – including for the Centre for International Security and the International Office and Student Life Team – and for his energy engaging with and strengthening the university community. Originally from India, Sanyam holds a bachelor’s degree in business economics and a master’s degree in photography. For the 2022/23 Academic Year, he will complete a Professional Year at the GIZ in Bonn, Germany, for the Africa-EU Energy Partnership project.

The DAAD prize, worth 1,000 euros, is awarded by the German Academic Exchange Service and financed by the German Federal Foreign Office. It aims to give faces to the many international students at German universities and honour both their academic excellence and social or intercultural engagement.
