Loneliness - a silent pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has shed light on loneliness as a significant public health concern. Particularly loneliness rates among young people have surged associated with serious consequences for physical and mental well-being. However, loneliness extends beyond being solely a public health issue. A recent study by the think tank "Progressives Zentrum" reveals a strong connection between loneliness and antidemocratic views, threatening the social fabric of societies.

Recognizing this profound impact of loneliness on societies the topic has entered the policy sphere. Both the UK and Japan have established the role of a Minister of Loneliness. The German Family Ministry issued a federal strategy on loneliness just two months ago.

This event will feature speakers delving into the societal impact of loneliness, exploring its root causes and potential policy solutions. Join us for an insightful discussion with:

•    Lara Fleischer, Acting Head of Well-being Data and Policy Insights at the OECD
•    Dr. Herlind Megges, Policy Advisor at the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs (BMFSFJ)
•    Melanie Weiser, Junior Project Manager at “Das Progressive Zentrum”
•    Melanie Eckert, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of “krisenchat”
