In the classroom: the Hertie School Education Network (HEN) visits Berlin school

On February 9, the Hertie School Education Network (HEN) will head to school, where Hertie fellows will explore the nexus of education policymaking and local implementation.

Please note that this event takes place in English.

Too often, education policy appears far removed from the day-to-day life in the classroom. Together, we will visit Louise-Schroeder-Schule, a typical Berlin OSZ (Oberstufenzentrum = Vocational College for Public Administration and Office Management, including an upper secondary school, welcome classes for immigrant and refugee students, and preparation classes for the job market), where our network member Esther von Boehmer is Senior Teacher and Erasmus+ Coordinator. During the visit, we will explore how education policy is implemented on the ground and what kinds of challenges exist in the realization of major policy initiatives such as the DigitalPakt Schule. The visit at Louise-Schroeder-Schule will also allow us to learn more about Germany’s vocational education and training system and the way vocational schooling is conducted in the state of Berlin. Moreover, we will meet the school’s principal and IT team, as well as students (apprentices as clerks in public administration) to hear about their experiences.
