Future/s of digital governance

A presentation by Urs Gasser (Technical University of Munich). This event is part of the Digital Governance Research Colloquium hosted by the Centre for Digital Governance.

Abstract: Urs Gasser will kick off the session on the Future/s of Digital Governance with some opening remarks on the past, present, and possible future/s of governance in the digitally networked world, building upon a recent essay in the ACM. The focus will be on the question where innovation in governance might come from, and what roles universities might play. He will also touch upon possible "design requirements" for next-generation governance systems that could help bolster society's resilience in what is expected to be an age of discontinuity.

Urs Gasser is Professor of Public Policy, Governance, and Innovative Technology at the Technical University of Munich, where he serves as Dean of the newly launched TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology and Rector of the Munich School of Politics and Public Policy. Prior to his appointments in Munich, Urs was Professor of Practice at Harvard Law School and from 2009-2021 Executive Director of the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society, where he remains a member of the board of directors.

This event is moderated by Gerhard Hammerschmid, Professor of Public and Financial Management and Director of the Centre for Digital Governance at the Hertie School.
