Ambassador Series: Italy

The Hertie International Relations Club is proud to present the Ambassador Series with His Excellency Luigi Mattiolo, Ambassador of Italy to Germany. This event is open to the Hertie Community only.

His Excellency Luigi Mattiolo has been the Ambassador of the Italian Republic to the Federal Republic of Germany since December 2018. He started his career at the Italian embassy within the division of migration and social affairs. Previously, Luigi Mattiolo was ambassador to Turkey (2015 – 2018), Director General for the European Union at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2012 – 2015) and served as ambassador to Israel (2008 – 2012). From 2004 – 2005, Luigi Mattiolo worked within the department of European integration and as a coordinator regarding activities on security and foreign affairs. He served as embassy counselor to the Permanent Representation of the United Nations in New York City (2001 – 2004). His Excellency Luigi Mattiolo started his diplomatic career in 1981 after graduating from University La Sapienza in Rome within the subject of political sciences.

This initiative led by the International Relations Club gives Hertie School students the opportunity to engage in an informative dialogue with top level diplomats from diverse countries in an expressly informal setting - without the rigidity created by the presence of media representatives and other third parties. It poses a unique opportunity for students of public policy to gain first-hand experience of the diplomatic profession. This event is part of the 2019-20 edition of the Ambassador Series at the Hertie School.

We look forward to seeing you in the Forum! Refreshments will be provided at the end of the talk.
