Stein Kuhnle turns 70

A celebration and symposium took place in Bergen (Norway) to mark the occasion.

Congratulations to Stein Kuhnle, Professor Emeritus, who celebrated his 70th birthday on 22 November, and thus his retirement.

To commemorate the occasion, Kuhnle was honoured by the University of Bergen’s Institute for Comparative Politics with an international symposium, "Globalizing Welfare", honouring his noteworthy contributions and international influence on research related to the welfare state.

President Helmut K. Anheier had the pleasure of representing the Hertie School at the event, which was attended by colleagues and friends from around the world.

Stein Kuhnle is Professor of Comparative Politics at the University of Bergen (Norway) and Professor Emeritus at the Hertie School, where he taught Comparative Social Policy until 2013. He currently serves as honorary professor at the Centre for Welfare State Research at the University of Southern Denmark, and as honorary professor at Fudan University, Shanghai and at Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China. As a visiting scholar and professor, he has done research and given seminars at the University of California, Berkeley, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), the European University Institute in Florence, the University of Mannheim and at the Australian National University in Canberra. He holds a cand. polit. degree from the University of Bergen, where he directed the Department of Comparative Politics for many years and has taught since 1982.
