Spring 2023 Sustainability Colloquium series concludes with a wealth of insights

This semester's Colloquium agenda featured six sessions with speakers who presented cutting-edge research on climate, energy and sustainability policy.

As summer break approaches, we are also wrapping up the Spring 2023 semester lineup of the Sustainability Colloquium. Over the course of the series, we had the privilege of hosting five presentations with six leading experts in the climate, energy and sustainability fields. Their presentations covered a range of issues, from climate finance and corporate ownership to decision-making processes in urban transport and climate governance among major emitters. We would like to thank our speakers for sharing their expertise and insights with Hertie School students and community members.

Thank you to our 2023 presenters:

  • Dr. Barbara Buchner, Global Managing Director, Climate Policy Initiative, who presented on the Global State of Climate Finance
  • Dr. Jared Finnegan, Lecturer in Public Policy at UCL, who presented on short-term investors and business opposition to climate policy
  • Julie Runde Krogstad, Researcher at NORCE Research, visiting PhD Candidate at the Hertie School, wo presented a study of decision-making processes in urban transport . Taking a regional approach, our researchers had the opportunity to learn about the decision-making processes in urban transport in Norway. The penultimate presentation this semester was with
  • Dr. Jonas Meckling, Associate Professor of Energy and Environmental Policy and Jonathan Guy, PhD candidate at UC Berkeley, who presented on national models of climate governance among major emitters.
  • Dr. Irene Monasterolo, Professor of Climate Finance at EDHEC Business School, who presented on lessons learned for risk management specific to climate risks and financial stability.

We also want to thank everyone who attended the Sustainability Colloquia and brought thoughtful questions to the discussions.

We look forward to the Fall 2023 Sustainability Colloquium and we hope to see you all there! Keep an eye on our events page for information about the next Colloquium sessions.
