Constant crisis management and conflict of interest allegations against finance minister have kept the governing parties occupied.
On German news show ZDF heute journal, Dean of Executive Education Andrea Römmele discussed the latest tensions among Germany’s coalition government of Social Democrats, Free Democrats and the Greens. “What started out as the coalition of progress has now turned into one of crisis management that has to rebalance itself on a daily basis,” the Professor of Communication in Politics and Civil Society said. “This of course has a huge impact on the dynamics in the ‘traffic light’ coalition.”
Recent allegations against Minister of Finance Christian Lindner of possible corruption over a bank loan “certainly burden the coalition, but the presumption of innocence applies here, and the public prosecutor's office is working on it,” Römmele said. “Now we just have to wait and see what the results will be.”
