Markus Jachtenfuchs and Waltraud Schelkle discuss monetary solidarity and the pandemic recovery in the euro area
Jacques Delors Centre’s Future of Europe lecture series kicks off with online event.
On 11 May 2020, Waltraud Schelkle, Professor in Political Economy at the London School of Economics and Political Science, spoke on "Monetary solidarity in the long recovery from the Corona pandemic" as part of the lecture series “Future of Europe” at the Hertie School’s Jacques Delors Centre. In the online event and first instalment of the lecture series, available here as a video, Schelkle speaks with Hertie School Professor of European and Global Governance Markus Jachtenfuchs on the possible and desirable scenarios for the future of the European Union, applying the theory of inter-state risk-sharing to the euro area's current predicament, from her seminal book "The political economy of monetary solidarity: revisiting the Euro experiment" (Oxford University Press, 2017). The Jacques Delors Centre regularly invites renowned scholars and intellectuals to debate and share insights into their research in this regular lecture series, which is part of the CIVICA – The European University of Social Sciences, involving seven universities across Europe. The series also receives funding from the German Academic Exchange Service.
